Meet the Dinosaur with a Crown of Spikes!

The Schleich Styracosaurus looks ready to charge straight out of the Late Cretaceous. With a huge horn above its nose and a spectacular row of long spikes around its neck frill, this powerful plant-eater would have been an unforgettable sight.

When Did Styracosaurus Live?

Styracosaurus lived during the Late Cretaceous Period, around 75 million years ago. It appeared much later than Stegosaurus, but several million years before Tyrannosaurus rex ruled the prehistoric world.

What Did Styracosaurus Eat?

Styracosaurus was a herbivore. Its beak-like mouth helped it grab tough plants, while rows of strong cheek teeth sliced through ferns, cycads and other fibrous vegetation.

How Big Was Styracosaurus?

This bulky horned dinosaur grew approximately 5 to 5.5 metres long and may have weighed between 1.8 and 2.7 tonnes. That made it much bigger and heavier than a modern rhinoceros.

Where Did Styracosaurus Live?

Styracosaurus lived in what is now western North America. Many of its fossils have been discovered in Alberta, Canada, where it roamed ancient coastal floodplains alongside other plant-eating and meat-eating dinosaurs.

Awesome Styracosaurus Facts

  • Its name means “spiked lizard”.
  • The large horn above its nose may have grown to around 60 centimetres long.
  • Its neck frill carried several long spikes, making it look as though it wore a prehistoric crown.
  • The horns and frill may have been used for display, recognising other Styracosaurus or defending against predators.
  • Fossils found together suggest that Styracosaurus may have lived and travelled in herds.

Would You Dare Face Those Spikes?

A hungry predator creeps closer, but Styracosaurus is not running away. It lowers its enormous nose horn and turns its crown of spikes towards the danger. This plant-eater might not hunt other dinosaurs, but it certainly knows how to look after itself!

With the superb quality and realistic detailing expected from Schleich dinosaur figures, this impressive Styracosaurus is ready for Cretaceous adventures and a special place in any young dinosaur expert’s collection.
