Meet the Long-Necked Hunter of the Jurassic Seas!

The Schleich Plesiosaurus is ready to glide through a prehistoric underwater world. With its long flexible neck, small head and four powerful flippers, this remarkable marine reptile was perfectly shaped for hunting beneath the waves.

When Did Plesiosaurus Live?

Plesiosaurus lived during the Early Jurassic Period, around 200 to 193 million years ago. It shared the ancient seas with fish, ammonites, ichthyosaurs and other extraordinary marine creatures.

What Did Plesiosaurus Eat?

Plesiosaurus was a carnivore and piscivore, which means it ate meat and fed mainly on fish. Its long, sharp teeth helped it catch slippery prey, while its slender neck allowed its small head to reach towards passing fish.

How Big Was Plesiosaurus?

Plesiosaurus grew approximately 3 to 3.5 metres long and may have weighed between 90 and 450 kilograms. Much of its length came from its long neck, which contained around 40 individual vertebrae.

Where Did Plesiosaurus Live?

Plesiosaurus swam through the warm, shallow seas that once covered parts of what is now Europe. Some of its best-known fossils have been discovered along the coast of Dorset in England.

Awesome Plesiosaurus Facts

  • Plesiosaurus was a marine reptile, not a dinosaur, although it lived during the age of dinosaurs.
  • It had four large flippers and moved them like underwater wings.
  • Plesiosaurus had to swim to the surface to breathe air.
  • Its body was broad and turtle-like, with a small head, short tail and unusually long neck.
  • A nearly complete Plesiosaurus skeleton was discovered by famous fossil hunter Mary Anning in England in 1823.

Dive into a Prehistoric Ocean Adventure

A flash of silver catches its eye. Plesiosaurus sweeps its four flippers through the water, bends its long neck and snaps at a fish before it can escape. Then it turns towards the surface for another breath of air.

The bendable neck lets young ocean explorers pose their Plesiosaurus as it searches for fish and investigates the Jurassic seabed. With the superb quality and realistic detailing expected from Schleich prehistoric animal figures, it is ready for exciting underwater adventures.
