Meet the Dinosaur with a Built-In Trumpet!

The Schleich Parasaurolophus brings one of the most recognisable duck-billed dinosaurs into the playroom. Its long, curved head crest made it stand out from the herd and may even have helped this remarkable plant-eater produce deep, booming calls.

When Did Parasaurolophus Live?

Parasaurolophus lived during the Late Cretaceous Period, around 76 to 73 million years ago. It shared its prehistoric world with other duck-billed dinosaurs, horned dinosaurs and some very hungry meat-eaters.

What Did Parasaurolophus Eat?

Parasaurolophus was a herbivore. Its broad, duck-like beak helped it gather leaves, shoots and other vegetation, while rows of tightly packed teeth at the back of its mouth ground up tough plant material.

How Big Was Parasaurolophus?

Parasaurolophus could grow approximately 7.5 to 9.5 metres long and may have weighed between 2.5 and 5 tonnes. It could walk on all four legs while feeding, then rise onto its powerful hind legs when it needed to move more quickly.

Where Did Parasaurolophus Live?

Parasaurolophus lived in what is now western North America. Fossils have been discovered in Alberta, Canada, as well as Utah and New Mexico in the United States. Its world included forests, rivers, coastal plains and lush floodplains filled with vegetation.

Awesome Parasaurolophus Facts

  • Parasaurolophus belonged to a group of dinosaurs known as hadrosaurs, or duck-billed dinosaurs.
  • Its famous head crest was hollow, with long air passages running through it.
  • Scientists think the crest may have produced deep calls that could travel across forests and floodplains.
  • The crest may also have helped Parasaurolophus recognise others of its own kind.
  • It could walk on either two legs or four, depending on what it was doing.

Listen for the Call of the Cretaceous!

A herd moves quietly between the trees until a deep call echoes across the floodplain. Parasaurolophus raises its crested head and answers. Is it calling the herd together, warning of danger or simply saying hello? That is a mystery for young dinosaur experts to explore!

With the superb quality and realistic detailing expected from Schleich dinosaur figures, this distinctive Parasaurolophus is ready for Cretaceous journeys, herd adventures and a special place in any young dinosaur expert’s collection.
