Meet the Razor-Toothed Hunter of the Triassic Seas!

The Schleich Nothosaurus is ready to prowl the warm coastal waters of the Triassic world. With its long neck, streamlined body and mouth filled with sharp teeth, this prehistoric hunter was superbly equipped for catching slippery fish.

When Did Nothosaurus Live?

Nothosaurus lived during the Middle to Late Triassic Period, around 245 to 228 million years ago. It appeared before famous dinosaurs such as Stegosaurus, Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus rex.

What Did Nothosaurus Eat?

Nothosaurus was a carnivore and piscivore, feeding mainly on fish, squid-like cephalopods and other small marine animals. Its long jaws were lined with sharp, pointed teeth that helped it grip slippery prey before it could escape.

How Big Was Nothosaurus?

Many types of Nothosaurus grew approximately 3 to 4 metres long, while the largest species may have reached an impressive 7 metres. Its long, flexible body and powerful tail helped it move through shallow coastal waters.

Where Did Nothosaurus Live?

Nothosaurus lived in the warm, shallow waters of the ancient Tethys Ocean. Its fossils have been discovered across parts of Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

Awesome Nothosaurus Facts

  • Nothosaurus was a marine reptile, not a dinosaur, although it lived during the age of dinosaurs.
  • Its name means “false lizard”.
  • It had webbed feet rather than the fully developed flippers seen on later marine reptiles such as Plesiosaurus.
  • Nothosaurus may have hunted underwater and then hauled itself onto beaches and rocky shorelines to rest.
  • Its long, pointed teeth formed a natural fish trap when its jaws snapped shut.

Something Is Hunting Beneath the Waves!

A school of fish darts through the shallow water. Nothosaurus slips beneath the surface, stretches out its long neck and snaps its razor-toothed jaws shut. One unlucky fish has just become lunch!

With the superb quality and realistic detailing expected from Schleich prehistoric animal figures, this menacing Nothosaurus is ready for underwater hunts, shoreline adventures and a special place in any young prehistoric expert’s collection.
