The Schleich Majungasaurus brings one of Madagascar’s fiercest prehistoric predators into the playroom. With a heavily built head, a rounded horn and powerful jaws filled with sharp teeth, this meat-eater was the top hunter in its island home.

When Did Majungasaurus Live?

Majungasaurus lived during the Late Cretaceous Period, around 70 to 66 million years ago. It was one of the last non-bird dinosaurs, living near the end of the age of dinosaurs.

What Did Majungasaurus Eat?

Majungasaurus was a carnivore. As the largest predator in its environment, it probably hunted plant-eating dinosaurs such as the long-necked Rapetosaurus and scavenged any suitable meal it discovered.

Scientists have even found Majungasaurus bones bearing tooth marks made by another Majungasaurus. This provides rare evidence that it sometimes fed on members of its own kind, although scientists cannot tell whether it hunted them or scavenged animals that were already dead.

How Big Was Majungasaurus?

Majungasaurus generally grew approximately 6 to 7 metres long and weighed around 750 kilograms to 1.1 tonnes. Its powerful body stood on short, stocky hind legs, while its front limbs were extremely small.

Where Did Majungasaurus Live?

Majungasaurus lived on the island of Madagascar, off the eastern coast of Africa. Its home was a hot, seasonally dry landscape crossed by rivers and floodplains, where wet seasons could be followed by long periods of drought.
