Meet the Fearsome Boar Croc!

The Schleich Kaprosuchus brings one of prehistoric Africa’s strangest predators into the playroom. With a heavily built skull, horn-like bumps and huge tusk-shaped teeth, this ancient crocodile relative looked ready to take on almost anything in its path.

When Did Kaprosuchus Live?

Kaprosuchus lived during the Late Cretaceous Period, around 95 million years ago. It shared prehistoric Africa with dinosaurs, giant fish and several other unusual crocodile relatives.

What Did Kaprosuchus Eat?

Kaprosuchus was a carnivore. Its powerful jaws contained three pairs of enlarged, tusk-like teeth that helped it grip and slice into prey. It may have hunted small dinosaurs and other animals living around the rivers and floodplains of its Cretaceous home.

How Big Was Kaprosuchus?

Scientists are not certain how large Kaprosuchus grew because only one skull has been discovered. It was once estimated to reach approximately 6 metres long, although more recent studies suggest it may have been closer to 2.5 to 4 metres long.

Where Did Kaprosuchus Live?

Kaprosuchus lived in what is now Niger in northern Africa. Although its fossil was found in the Sahara Desert, the area was very different 95 million years ago, with rivers, floodplains and plenty of animals for a hungry predator to hunt.

Awesome Kaprosuchus Facts

  • Its name means “boar crocodile”, inspired by its enormous tusk-like teeth.
  • Kaprosuchus was a prehistoric crocodile relative, not a dinosaur.
  • Three pairs of enlarged teeth projected above and below its jaws.
  • Its eyes faced partly forwards, giving it overlapping vision that may have helped it judge distances while hunting.
  • Only one nearly complete skull has been found, so much of its body and lifestyle remains a prehistoric mystery.

Open Wide for the Boar Croc!

Something moves beside the river. Kaprosuchus turns its armoured head, charges forwards and opens its jaws to reveal six enormous tusk-like teeth. Whatever caught its attention had better make a very quick escape!

The figure’s opening mouth shows off its long, protruding teeth, bringing extra biting action to Cretaceous adventures. With the superb quality and realistic detailing expected from Schleich prehistoric animal figures, Kaprosuchus is ready for riverbank hunts and a special place in any young expert’s collection.
