The Schleich Dinogorgon brings one of the Permian Period’s fiercest land predators into the playroom. With a broad, powerful head, strong jaws and long canine teeth, this fearsome hunter was built to tackle other prehistoric animals.
When Did Dinogorgon Live?
Dinogorgon lived during the Late Permian Period, around 256 to 254 million years ago. That means it was already hunting across the land millions of years before the first dinosaurs appeared.
What Did Dinogorgon Eat?
Dinogorgon was a carnivore. It probably preyed on reptiles and smaller therapsids, using its powerful jaws and long canine teeth to bite and hold struggling prey.
How Big Was Dinogorgon?
Dinogorgon grew to approximately 2 metres long. Its heavily built skull could measure around 30 to 40 centimetres, giving this predator an impressively large head for its body.
Where Did Dinogorgon Live?
Dinogorgon lived in prehistoric southern Africa. Its fossils have been discovered in what are now South Africa and Tanzania, which were once part of the enormous ancient supercontinent called Pangaea.

- Dinogorgon was not a dinosaur. It was a gorgonopsian, an ancient type of therapsid.
- Its name means “terrible gorgon”, inspired by the frightening creatures of Greek mythology.
- Its long canine teeth appeared millions of years before famous sabre-toothed mammals evolved.
- Dinogorgon walked on four legs and was one of the formidable predators of its Permian world.
- It disappeared during the great extinction at the end of the Permian Period, long before Tyrannosaurus rex or Triceratops appeared.
