Meet Antarctica’s Cold-Crested Hunter!

The Schleich Cryolophosaurus brings one of Antarctica’s most remarkable dinosaurs into the playroom. With a colourful crest across its head and an opening mouth filled with dangerous teeth, this prehistoric predator is ready to rule its frozen corner of the dinosaur world.

When Did Cryolophosaurus Live?

Cryolophosaurus lived during the Early Jurassic Period, around 196 to 188 million years ago. It was one of the largest meat-eating dinosaurs known from that early stage of the Jurassic.

What Did Cryolophosaurus Eat?

Cryolophosaurus was a carnivore. Its sharp, serrated teeth were suited to biting and tearing meat, and it probably hunted plant-eating dinosaurs and other animals sharing its Antarctic home.

How Big Was Cryolophosaurus?

Cryolophosaurus could grow approximately 6 to 7 metres long and may have weighed around 350 to 500 kilograms. The best-known fossil came from a young animal that had not finished growing, so a fully grown adult may have been even larger.

Where Did Cryolophosaurus Live?

Cryolophosaurus lived in what is now Antarctica. Although Antarctica was closer to the South Pole than it is today, the continent was not buried beneath a permanent sheet of ice. Forests grew there, but the dinosaurs still had to endure cold and dark Antarctic winters.

Awesome Cryolophosaurus Facts

  • Its name means “cold-crested lizard”.
  • Its unusual bony crest curved across the top of its head from side to side.
  • The crest may have helped Cryolophosaurus recognise or impress others of its own kind.
  • It was the first meat-eating dinosaur discovered in Antarctica.
  • Its rock-star crest earned it the playful nickname “Elvisaurus”.

Open Wide for an Antarctic Roar!

A plant-eating dinosaur moves between the trees. Cryolophosaurus raises its crested head, charges through the chilly forest and opens its jaws wide. Even in prehistoric Antarctica, there was no escaping a hungry hunter!

The figure’s opening mouth reveals rows of dangerous teeth, adding plenty of biting and roaring action to prehistoric play. With the superb quality and realistic detailing expected from Schleich dinosaur figures, Cryolophosaurus is ready for Antarctic hunts, dinosaur battles and a special place in any young expert’s collection.
