Meet the Meat-Eating Bull with the Tiniest Arms!

The Schleich Carnotaurus is a prehistoric predator that is almost impossible to mistake for any other dinosaur. With two large horns above its eyes, a deep bulldog-like face and arms so tiny they make Tyrannosaurus rex look well equipped, Carnotaurus is wonderfully strange and seriously impressive.

When Did Carnotaurus Live?

Carnotaurus lived during the Late Cretaceous Period, approximately 72 to 69 million years ago. It appeared near the end of the age of dinosaurs, although it lived in a different part of the world from Tyrannosaurus rex.

What Did Carnotaurus Eat?

Carnotaurus was a carnivore. It probably hunted smaller and medium-sized plant-eating dinosaurs and may also have attacked young or vulnerable long-necked sauropods.

Its short, deep skull contained sharp, curved teeth for gripping and tearing meat. Scientists are still debating exactly how Carnotaurus hunted, but its strong hind legs and powerful tail suggest it was built for sudden bursts of speed.

How Big Was Carnotaurus?

Carnotaurus grew approximately 7.5 to 8 metres long and may have weighed between 1.3 and 2.1 tonnes. It walked on two long, powerful legs, with its muscular tail helping it balance as it moved.

Where Did Carnotaurus Live?

Carnotaurus lived in what is now Patagonia in Argentina. Its Late Cretaceous home included rivers, coastal plains, forests and open areas inhabited by turtles, crocodile relatives and plant-eating dinosaurs.

Awesome Carnotaurus Facts

  • Its name means “meat-eating bull”, inspired by the two large horns above its eyes.
  • Scientists think its horns may have been used for display, recognising others or competing with rivals.
  • Its arms were even shorter than those of Tyrannosaurus rex and probably had very little practical use.
  • Carnotaurus had four fingers on each tiny hand, although the fingers were extremely reduced.
  • Fossilised skin impressions show that its body was covered in small scales with rows of larger bumps.
  • Only one Carnotaurus skeleton has been discovered, but it is remarkably complete and even preserves impressions of its skin.

Big Horns, Tiny Arms and Plenty of Attitude!

Carnotaurus charges across the Cretaceous landscape with its horned head held low. Those unbelievably short arms will not be much help, but with powerful legs, sharp teeth and a face built to intimidate, this meat-eating bull has everything else it needs!

The figure’s opening mouth adds plenty of snapping and roaring action to prehistoric adventures. With the superb quality and realistic detailing expected from Schleich dinosaur figures, Carnotaurus is ready to finish this collection with two big horns, two very tiny arms and one enormous personality.
