The Car That Invented Fun

Bare feet in the sand. Sun overhead. Engine buzzing behind you.

The Manx doesn’t worry about lap times or top speed. It’s here for freedom — bouncing over dunes, carving beach tracks, and turning every drive into a holiday.

No doors. No roof. No rules.

This is the car that proved performance doesn’t have to be serious — and that sometimes the best cars are the ones that make you smile first.

This one speaks to the 7-year-old who loves open wheels and adventure — and the collector who knows this is where off-road culture truly began.

About the Real Car

  • Model: Meyers Manx
  • Engine: Air-cooled flat-four (Volkswagen Beetle, rear-mounted)
  • Power: Approx. 30–40 kW (depending on donor engine)
  • Drivetrain: Rear-wheel drive
  • Highlights: Ultra-lightweight fibreglass body, high ground clearance, iconic open-wheel design

The Original Dune Buggy

Created in 1964 by surfer, boat builder, and designer Bruce Meyers, the Meyers Manx is the car that defined the dune buggy genre. Built on a shortened Volkswagen Beetle chassis, its lightweight fibreglass body transformed humble mechanicals into a beach-going, sand-skimming icon.

The first prototype, known as “Old Red”, set the template for everything that followed — simple, tough, and incredibly capable off-road thanks to its low weight and rear-engine traction.

In 1967, the Manx cemented its legend by winning the inaugural Mexican 1000 (the event that would later become the Baja 1000), proving it wasn’t just fun — it was fast where it mattered.

Although thousands of copies followed, the original Meyers Manx remains the most desirable, collectible, and culturally significant dune buggy ever built.

Hot Wheels Boulevard

The Meyers Manx brings a completely different flavour to the Boulevard lineup — relaxed, iconic, and endlessly cool. It represents an era when cars were about lifestyle as much as performance, and when innovation came from creativity rather than complexity.
