About the Real 1975 Range Rover (Suffix D)

The 1975 Range Rover 2-Door helped cement the model’s status as the world’s first true luxury SUV — a vehicle capable of impressive off-road feats while offering the comfort of a saloon car. The 1975 “Suffix D” update refined the interior with better sound deadening, improved lighting and upgraded trim.

  • Engine: 3.5-litre aluminium Rover V8.  Carburetted, naturally aspirated
  • Power output: approx. 92 kW (period typical figure)
  • Performance: Top speed: 155–160 km/h.  Towing capacity: up to 3.5 tonnes
  • Transmission: 4-speed manual with high/low range and permanent 4WD
  • Engineering highlights:
    - Permanent four-wheel drive with centre differential
    - Long-travel coil-spring suspension
    - High ground clearance and strong boxed chassis
    - Lightweight aluminium body panels to resist corrosion
  • Design: Iconic clamshell bonnet, straight waistline, split tailgate and 2-door profile.

Designed by Charles Spencer King and David Bache, the original Range Rover was so significant that it was displayed in the Louvre Museum in 1971 as a masterpiece of industrial design. It became a symbol of capability, prestige and British engineering — loved by farmers, adventurers and royalty alike.
