Built to Intimidate — ’66 Super Nova

One glance at the ’66 Super Nova is enough to understand its intentions. The bonnet is gone, replaced by a towering supercharger gulping air above the engine bay. Huge drag slicks fill the rear wheel arches, while narrow front tyres create the nose-high gasser stance that once ruled American drag strips. There is no attempt at subtlety here. This is a classic two-door Chevrolet transformed into a purpose-built quarter-mile monster, ready to launch hard, lift the front end, and thunder towards the finish line. Bright, outrageous, and proudly excessive, it captures the raw theatre of old-school drag racing perfectly.

About the Real Car Inspiration

  • Model: 1966 Chevrolet Nova custom drag racer
  • Engine: Supercharged American V8
  • Power: Highly modified drag-racing specification
  • Drivetrain: Rear-wheel drive
  • Highlights: Exposed blown V8; classic gasser stance; oversized rear drag slicks; narrow front tyres; bonnet-delete bodywork; bright yellow finish with Mooneyes graphics

From Compact Chevrolet to Quarter-Mile Monster

The Chevrolet Nova began life as a relatively compact and practical American car, but its straightforward construction, rear-wheel-drive layout, and generous engine bay made it a favourite among hot rodders and drag racers. Builders quickly discovered that the lightweight Nova body could accommodate serious V8 power, creating a formidable combination on the quarter mile.

This Super Nova takes that formula to its theatrical extreme. The enormous supercharger dominates the view through the missing bonnet, while the contrasting tyre sizes make the car look ready to transfer every possible kilogram of weight onto the rear wheels during launch. It is exactly the sort of gloriously unsubtle machine that made traditional drag racing such a spectacle.

Why Collectors Will Love It

The bright yellow body gives this release enormous shelf presence, while the black-and-white striping and Mooneyes graphics connect it directly with classic American speed culture. The exposed engine provides plenty of mechanical detail, and the contrasting Real Riders tyres reproduce the purposeful proportions of a proper drag-strip build.

Metal/Metal construction gives the model the weight and finish expected from Hot Wheels Premium, while the numbered Boulevard packaging makes it an essential addition for collectors following the complete series. Whether viewed from the side, front, or directly above that enormous blower, the ’66 Super Nova never lacks visual drama.
